What Being a Mary Kay Consultant Has Taught Me
Not too long ago someone was making a dumb remark about me and my Mary Kay. It was something along the lines of "yea like she is going to make a million dollars selling Mary Kay" or something like that. For some reason I remembered that today and it got me thinking. What has being a Mary Kay Consultant taught me?
Nothing worth having comes without work. Before I quit my job I was trying to do the MK thing part time. My hopes was that one day I would be able to quit my full time job and do MK full time, be a director, drive the pink Cadillac etc. It didn't quite work out that way. Mainly because I was way too tired and negative from my job to want to do anything with my MK business once I got home and on my days off I was so tired I just didn't feel like it. Sure I did the occasional skin care class or one -on-one facial. But for the most part I was treating it like a hobby and really expecting that the people would come to me. It didn't and doesn't work that way.
Have confidence in yourself. Mary Kay (as in all direct selling) is a numbers game. If someone says "no" don't take it personally. They are not saying no to you. They are saying no to what you are offering. But you have to have confidence because if you don't, you will not have the courage to even ask anyone much less anything else.My director once told me that the only difference between us is that she has had more people say "no" to her than I have.
Don't stand in your own way. I am my biggest obstacle. I am my harshest critic and I tend to get discouraged very easily. I have learned that I have to get out of my own way and do what I have to do. If not then it won't get done. That's life and that's the way it works. In order to accomplish anything you have go "get out of your own way".
People are going to be who they are. Many, many times I have had appointments scheduled with people. Only to have them virtually "disappear". When I call to confirm they are no where to be found. I call, I leave messages, I text. And nothing. to me that's the hardest part of this business. Because if they really weren't interested then I could have scheduled someone else in that slot who is really interested.
Step out of your comfort zone. This one is really self explanatory. Approaching people I don't know and talking to them scares me to death. But if I don't do it, I will never grow and my business will never grow.
I can do this! I can do this! I really can. I have discovered that I do have more confidence than I ever thought possible. Will I make a "million dollars"? Who knows? Maybe one day I will but the most important thing I have discovered that that I am way more capable of doing things and stepping out of my comfort zone than I ever imagined. I have been doing Mary Kay a little over 3 years now and I am just NOW realizing the above.
So to you I say this. If you have been thinking about doing something like Mary Kay and are afraid, or don't think you are a "sales person". I say TRY IT! Relax and GO FOR IT. Whether it be something like Mary Kay or anything else you have thought about doing, Don't stand in your own way!! Get out there and MAKE IT HAPPEN!
If you would like to give Mary Kay a try and don't know anyone who is a consultant I would be more than glad to help you get started. This goes for orders too. If you don't have a consultant and would like one I would love to be yours!
